Our Certificate in School Administration course aims to develop participants' skills, knowledge and understanding in School Administration helping you develop a career in school administration or business management.

To be able to partake in the Certificate in School Administration course you need to be:

  • Working in a school office (or have access to one)
  • Supported by your heateacher or line manager
  • Able to access the internet at home or at work

In completing the Certificate in School Administration participants will be able to:

  • Gain a better understanding of their role as a school administrator
  • Increase their understanding of the way in which schools operate
  • Understanding the organisation, structure, policies and procedures in your school
  • Understand how to work with people including motivating staff, office roles, communication skills, managing change and team work
  • Understand your role within your school including managing information and performance management
  • Identify opportunities for further professional development

The Course

The Certificate in School Administration course has three modules to be followed by all participants.

Certificate in School Administration Module One - Knowing Your School

Certificate in School Administration Module Two - Working With People

Certificate in School Administration Module Three - Understanding My Role

  • Managing information
  • Data security and protection
  • Information retrieval/searching
  • Technology for administration
  • Performance management

The course activities are specifically designed to encourage participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to their school context.

The Certificate in School Administration course takes approximately six months to complete and during that time you will attend three one-day training events. In between these events you will keep in contact with your tutor and other group members through our dedicated online learning system and via e-mail.

Assesment

To successfully complete the Certificate of School Administration course, you will submit a Learning Diary. This will be compiled by you during the course and will include:

  • A Professional Development Plan
  • A Personal Action Plan
  • A Learning Log – this will consist of your responses to the activities covered during the course
  • A Work Project Report – this will be a report of between 2000 and 2500 words, and will focus on an aspect of your role that you wish to improve.

Your Learning Diary will be submitted to the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM) for verification. On successful completion of the course you will receive the Institute of Administrative Management’s Certificate in Administrative Management and Manchester Metropolitan University's Certificate of School Administration.

Certificate in Facilities Management

 

By completing this course the candidates will be able to recognise buildings, grounds and premises as the learning environment, which is key to the success of leadership and, management of the school and enhancing learning opportunities for its community.’ 

 

This programme aims to:

 

  • Develop participants understanding of premises management including sustainability and caring for the learning environment. 
  • Developing understanding of health and safety and risk management in the work place 
  • Identifying their team role and working as part of a wider team

 

It will provide you with:

 

  • Candidates will be able to demonstrate their improved understanding of the strategic importance to maintaining the learning environment  
  • They will improve their knowledge and understanding of the sustainability agenda and be proactive in its implementation. 
  • Strategic understanding of planned maintenance cycles and programmes 
  • They will be able to plan and implement health and safety policies and risk management processes including risk assessment and understanding of health and safety legal obligations. 
  • They will be able to identify their team role and the key components of high performing teams and the impact on school management and leadership. 
  • One years membership of the Institute of Leadership and Management 
  • One years membership of the British Institute of Facilities Management 
  • Level Three award in Facilities Management 

Format:

 

Each programme is thoroughly participative in format and takes a blended learning approach.  Everyone attending is encouraged to get actively involved; sharing, comparing and exchanging experiences.  Participants will be working together in round-table style, supported by specially trained facilitators.  The emphasis will be on the practical, with plenty of opportunities for discussion and healthy debate.
